The village Neighbourhood Watch Scheme is intentionally simple with equally simple objectives; to help ourselves and to help the Police. In an ideal world the scheme would not be needed, but Police manpower is such that they rely on any assistance we can give. Cowlinge is Policed by a Safer Neighbourhood Team - see: http://www.onesuffolk.co.uk/safersuffolk/stedmundsburyruralsouth
If you see any criminal activity, or anything which makes you highly suspicious, you should dial 999 immediately. We are told by the Police that, in this area, not enough people do that when they should. At some point after this, it is very useful if you can also contact one of the scheme co-ordinators. These are also the people to contact if you have any concerns about anything suspicious, or about security in general.
Do keep an eye on the notice board at the village hall. The list of co-ordinators is to be found there and the regular Neighbourhood Watch News sheets are displayed, with details of local incidents. In addition, each Cowlinge Chronicle contains a Neighbourhood Watch article.
The Police produce information and advice on all types of security. This is readily obtainable, mostly free of charge. Contact the Scheme Co-ordinator for more information: nwatch@cowlinge.suffolk.gov.uk
When you first move into the St Edmundsbury Area you should receive a pack of general information about Neighbourhood Watch. If you do not. Please let the Scheme Co-ordinator know.
